Walk and Drive
Ref: WD
dotrule.gif
This is the perfect break for those who wish to combine walking and
discovering different areas of Ireland by car. We will book your
accommodation, car hire and supply you with walking notes and
maps (cycling notes in Kerry also available). You simply walk when
and where you choose.
We have chosen Kerry, Wicklow and Galway as your walking bases.
The walks we have chosen are circular of varying lengths in some of
the most scenic parts of the country. You simply decide how
energetic you are feeling, park the car and walk. The walks we have
selected are located in different parts of the country, which gives
you the opportunity to explore each region.
We have, where possible added a unique Go Ireland twist to your
trail. For example, in the Kerry region you can drive to Portmagee in
south Kerry and take a boat trip to the Skellig Rocks. The Skellig
Rocks rise about 200m above the Atlantic Ocean, just 12km from the
Kerry coast. Skellig Michael, the largest rock contains beehive
dwellings of an early Christian monastery. The smaller rock is a bird
sanctuary. Alternatively, in the West of Ireland region you can take a
boat to the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway and walk to the
pre-historic fort, Dun Aonghasa.

KERRY
Kerry has long been recognised as the best area of Ireland
for touring and walking. This programme will serve as an
introduction, perhaps encouraging you to return again.

traditional farms.

WEST OF IRELAND
The West of Ireland provides glorious countryside for
driving and walking. Galway city is the capital of the West
of Ireland.West and northwest of the city is the Gaelicspeaking
area of Connemara. Two of the walks introduce
you to its wild countryside. Three circuits are suggested
here, but of course you need not limit yourself to them.

Walk 3 – Ballynahinch (Clifden Railway)

WICKLOW

Wicklow, given its proximity to the capital city of Dublin,
is a natural mecca for touring and walking. The variety
of landscape, rich farmland and rugged mountain and
Lakeland scenery, ranging inland from the Irish Sea coast,
provides ample scope. This programme will serve as an
introduction to what is known as The Garden of Ireland,
perhaps encouraging you to return again.
