Kerry. Discover the beauty of Kerry in
late Spring, on some of the best walks
and climbs in the country, in the company
of experienced local guides. You will stay
in quality guesthouses or hotel in the
seaside village of Glenbeigh.

9.00 p.m. Registration and welcome briefing/slide show
with Seán Ó Súilleabháin
(founder of the Kerry Way) at the Kerry Ocean Lodge,
Glenbeigh.
Walk A: Carrauntoohil (1039m)
Distance: (depending on route) 12km/7.5miles Ascent:
1,000m/3,300ft
Climb Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s majestic highest
mountain (1039m). The ascent may be from the north via
Coomcallee/The Hag’s Glen, and up via the Eagle’s
Nest (Cummeennoughter) and O’Shea’s Gully.
An alternative ascent is over Caher (1001m). Weather
and the opportunity for views will dictate the routes
of ascent and descent. For experienced climbers only.
Walk B: Kerry Way – Derrycunnihy
and Gap of Dunloe
Distance: 14km/8.75miles Ascent: 200m/660ft
Experience the fairyland-like appearance of the ancient
oak woods on the shore of the Upper Lake of the Killarney
National Park. Your walk continues through the dramatic
ice-carved gorge of the Gap of Dunloe.
Walk A: Bealach Oisín
to Glenbeigh
Distance: 16km/10miles Ascent: 815m/2,675ft
Spectacular views, out to the Atlantic and over Dingle
Bay, should be gained on a ridge walk from the top of
Ballaghisheen Pass over a number of summits (Knocknagapple,
Colly, Macklaun and Beenreagh) before joining the Kerry
Way at the Windy Gap for the return to your base at Glenbeigh.
Walk B – Dooks and Cromane
Distance: up to 13km/8miles Ascent: very little!
Experience a variety of habitats (beach, nature reserve,
bog road) on a gentle stroll near the shore of Dingle
Bay and the Caragh River estuary. It could be arranged
to start and finish at a local hostelry!!
Departure after breakfast.
Rossbeigh Beach
Optional walk on the beautiful blue flag beach of
Rossbeigh before you head home.

Single Supplement: A limited number of single rooms
are available at a supplement of €20 per night.
For those willing to share, we will do our utmost
to match solo walkers.

Equipment: For both grades of walks - you will need
warm and waterproof clothing, including a hat, gloves
and spare clothing. Mountain boots with a good cleated
sole (to prevent slipping) and support (for the ankles)
are essential. Bring along a flask and lunch box
in a small rucksack, which can hold your spare clothing.
Please note that jeans are not suitable (no insulation
value when wet) – tracksuit bottoms are much
better.
Don't forget to bring along musical instruments -
useful even for the coach transfers!!
Note: The organisers/guides reserve the right to
classify walkers on the basis of experience and suitability
of equipment. Guides may have to alter the walks
to allow for weather or other factors but this will
be done only as a last resort.
