You will be based in the towns of Glengarriff & Castletownbere, one of the country’s premier fishing ports. The towns have a selection of pubs and restaurants and for the culturally minded there is an Art Trail around the numerous galleries and studios in the area. These walks on the Beara peninsula are very varied with magnificient views of the rugged Peninsula and the Kenmare and Bantry Bays while taking in 3 of the most intriguing Islands off the coast of south west Ireland.

Tour Highlights:

• Glengariff
• Garinish Island & Gardens
• Dursey Island- The most westerly of West Cork’s inhabited islands
• Castletownbere - The heart of the Beara peninsula along with being the finest port in Ireland
• Bantry Bay
• Bere Island

Itinerary:
Day 1 Arrival Day - Glengariff
Glengarriff is famed for its natural beauty. Situated on world-renowned Bantry Bay where the mountains meet the sea, Glengarriff is the gateway to the Beara Peninsula, connecting the towns of Bantry and Kenmare and has also acquired a fine reputation for the great variety of shops, galleries, accommodation, restaurants, pubs and services. Briefing with your guide at 18.00 followed by dinner. Ovenight in Glengariff.

Day 2 Garnish Island
Located in the sheltered harbour of Glengariff in Bantry Bay, in Southwest Ireland, Garinish Island (Ilnacullin) is a small island of 15 hectares (37 acres) known to horticulturists and lovers of trees and shrubs all around the world as an island garden of rare beauty. Ovenight in Glengariff.

Day 3 Park Lough to Castletownbere. Distance 14.5km
In the morning you are dropped to Park Lough, where you then walk into Castletownbere at your leisure while your luggage continues with the bus to your B&B for the next 5 nights. You walk along bog roads past a megalithic tomb and down into the valley of Ahakista and into Castletownbere. Ovenight in Castletownbere.

Day 4 Castletownbere to Allihies. Distance 13.5km
This walk takes you to the village of Allihies where reputedly the first people to arrive in Ireland, the legendary Milesians first landed over a thousand years ago, appearing out of the Atlantic mist in the west. The walk is mostly along mountain tracks and bog roads where you will see rocky mountain heath, old copper mines, old standing stones, incredible views of Kenmare and Bantry Bays as well as some coastal islands. Ovenight in Castletownbere.

Day 5 Dursey Island. Distance 14 kms
After taking the infamous cable car to Dursey Island the outward route follows a track and path to the end of the island linking a few inhabited farmhouses on the way and the return route is partly along the rugged mooreland crest of the island. Ovenight in Castletownbere.

Day 6 Dunboy Circular Walk
This morning you will take a short walk around the town of Castletownbere and then enjoy a free afternoon & evening to laze around the town of Castletownbere (haven) or take a gentle stroll or cycle to visit the local castle ruins of Dunboy Castle 3km south – west of the town, which dates back from the 15th century. Puxley Hall is also just a short distance from the castle and was involved in the Copper Mines at Allihies. The general area around Castletownbere and west of there has a very strong archaeological heritage. Shore fishing, golfing and shopping are options. Ovenight in Castletownbere.

Day 7 Bere Island. Distance 13km or 28 kms.
This island offers 2 scenic loops exploring the roads, hills and coast. Perhaps a coastal walk from the pier to Ardnakinna Point lighthouse and up to Coomastooka to enjoy the views over Castletownbere at the cross then follow the Beara Way back to the pier along the Northern Road should satisfy all. Access to the island is by ferry Ovenight in Castletownbere.
