Ulrich was born in and grew up in Germany in the Ruhr Valley, the industrial centre of Germany, where he did his schooling and went to university studying English and PE.
In 1977 he moved to the west of Ireland where he had bought a ruined cottage which he spent years renovating it doing all the work himself from the thatching to making the furniture. Unfortunately the cottage was destroyed by fire in 2007 but Ulrich is still busy rebuilding. He is practically self-sufficient and grows all his own vegetables and fruit. He bakes his own bread and makes his wine.
His main interests are Botany, Geology and History and became interested in walking while teaching in south Wales in the mid-70s where he explored the beautiful countryside. He walked the Pennine Way and did lots of walks in the Alps where he spent several winters working as a ski instructor.
He has been working with Go Visit Ireland since the mid 90’s and has built up many friendships with clients that still come back year after year.
Ulrich guides along the West Coast of Ireland from our Dingle Peninsula walking tour to our Connemara, Burren & Aran Islands walking tour and on up to our Donegal Delights walking tour.
