The perfect itinerary for those who wish to combine walking and cycling as well participate in one of Ireland’s most spectacular boat trips. Suitable for all ages.
Four days walking, 8-12 miles (12-17 km) each day through Mid-Kerry’s lonely glens and onwards to spectacular coastal views, enriched with legends and archaeological remains. An option day allows you to partake in sightseeing, visit Killarney craft and book shops or visit a local spa. You then cycle (up to 24 km/15 miles) for 2 days, at your own pace, around Killarney’s Lakes and Fells, with a choice of route descriptions and maps. A boat trip through the famous lake land of Killarney is a dramatic finale with a self-guided walk through the spectacular Gap of Dunloe

Day 1 – Arrival
Arrival at your accommodation in Glenbeigh (3 nights). Your self-guided pack will be waiting for you here.
Day 2 – Walk The Kerry Way: Kells-Glenbeigh
Distance: 17km/10.5miles • Ascent: 300m/1,000ft
This spectacular coastal walk takes you on an early Christian route and medieval coaching road overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Opportunities to view 4,000 year old Rock art.
Day 3 – The Kerry Way: Glenbeigh-Glencar
Via Windy Gap – Distance: 13km/8miles • Ascent 350m/1,150ft
You walk from the seaside village of Glenbeigh, ascend gradually to circle Seefin Mountain and stroll downwards into the lush valley of the Caragh River in storied Glencar. Transfer back to Glenbeigh at the end of the walk.
Day 4 – Transfer to Killarney – Walk The Kerry Way- Old Kenmare Road
Distance: 12km/7.5miles approx. dependent on accommodation location • Ascent: 230m/ 750ft. Descent: 330m/1,100ft
You will be transferred to the start of the final leg of the Kerry Way which takes you into Killarney National Park – through ancient oak woods, along the Old Kenmare Road, with a descent beside the spectacular Torc Cascade and into the gardens of Muckross House (19th century mansion), with its welcoming teashop. Walk past the ruins of Muckross Friary (15th century) and out of the National Park to your B&B.

Day 5 – Free/Rest day
Enjoy some free time in Killarney which is renowned for its world-famous lakes, combined with the rugged beauty of its valleys and mountains, and its extraordinary wealth of trees and rare flowering-plants.
Free day options:
Bus tours of the Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula
Discover Killarney – cycle or stroll through the National Park. Enjoy the wonderful craft, book shops & tea houses or book a spa treatment.
Day 6 – Cycle Killarney National Park
Distance (12 miles/19 km)
Bike fitting at David O’Sullivan bikes close to your B&B.
Explore further and cycle on traffic free trails through Killarney National Park, shared only with pedestrians and jaunting cars. Dramatically weathered limestone crags and lush vegetation surround the beautiful lakes. You can stop at the medieval Abbey at Muckross (15th C) or at Dinis cottage for some tea. Quaint stone bridges are crossed to bring you to the spectacular Torc waterfall.
Day 7 – Cycle Gap of Dunloe, Black Valley and Lakes of Killarney Boat Trip
Distance: 24km/15 miles • Ascent: 400m/1,300ft
Cycle from Killarney to Kate Kearney’s Cottage where you will cycle through the dramatic, ice-carved Gap of Dunloe to Lord Brandon’s Cottage. From here board a wonderful open topped boat trip through the three Lakes of Killarney to Ross Castle where you will cycle back to the bike shop and return your bike before enjoying your last evening in Killarney.
Day 8 – Departure Day
Depart after your last hot cooked Irish breakfast.
